Czerny Challenge - Les Heures du Matin - Episode 1

E-mail

Hello guys,

I've decided to come back again in the video world. Because I want to improve in playing the piano. I decided to play the 160 pieces in the book "Les Heures du Matin" of Carl Czerny, famous for his studies for piano.

The challenge for me here is to post a video of me playing each of the 160 little pieces, no matter how many mistakes there are (1st rule).
Because I make a lot of mistakes each time I play, I don't like to post videos. This rule forces me to practice and makes me have an objective.

One of my main weak points is regularity. Practicing these pieces will help me to improve this point. It's less boring than playing Hanon pieces or scales all along.

I will rate each piece with my own point of view of difficulty (2nd rule). I will comment what's difficult and for what piano technique(s) the practice benefits for. This is some kind of experience feedback I can come back to when I haven't played the pieces for a long time.

Today, I recorded 18 pieces and posted them on Youtube. Here are the videos:

Op. 821 n°3
Key: C Major
Difficulty: 3/5
Comments: "Broderie" of double notes: I hate that, especially when you have to play the 2-4/3-5/2-4 fingering. It's not beautiful, sorry...

Op. 821 n°6
Key: F Major
Difficulty: 1/5
Comments: Exercice for regular trills at the left hand.

Op. 821 n°7
Key: F Major
Difficulty: 1/5
Comments: Chromatic scales at the right hand, with diatonic scale too.

Op. 821 n°8
Key: F Major
Difficulty: 2/5
Comments: Chromatic scales at the left hand: because I'm not used to these at the left hand, it's less easy than the previous piece

Op. 821 n°9
Key: F Major
Difficulty: 1/5
Comments: Scales going down and up. Cool piece easy to play fast, that's why I play it 2 times, the second time faster.

Op. 821 n°10
Key: F Major
Difficulty: 2/5
Comments: Rapid left hand. You have to be very regular in sound, it's not easy.

Op. 821 n°11
Key: Bb Major
Difficulty: 2/5
Comments: Depends on what tempo you play it. Because the repetition of the same octavas makes my right arm tetanized: I haven't catched yet the technique to play that without getting my arm tired...

Op. 821 n°12
Key: Bb Major
Difficulty: 1/5
Comments: Patterns and scales on the right hand. Regularity is the key. Cool to play.

Op. 821 n°13
Key: Bb Major
Difficulty: 3/5
Comments: The 16th notes at the left hand are hazardous, it's very hard to be regular on these. Moreover, the grace notes at the right hand are not helping. Sorry for the result.

Op. 821 n°14
Key: Bb Major
Difficulty: 2/5
Comments: Fast little notes at the right hand, some kind of chat between the 2 hands.

Op. 821 n°15
Key: G Major
Difficulty: 2/5
Comments: Very fast 32th-notes at the right hand, close to each other. You have to be cautious to the intervals between the fingers so as to play without mistakes. Regularity is also hard to keep, you can easily lose control over your fingers.

Op. 821 n°16
Key: G Major
Difficulty: 3/5
Comments: Regularity and playing the same note 4 times in a row by changing the fingering. Hard piece, you'll hear that I can't keep the pace...

Op. 821 n°17
Key: G Major
Difficulty: 3/5
Comments: Similar exercise, a bit faster. But I'd like to think it easier than the previous one, because of the left hand doing simple quarter notes instead of 16-th notes.

Op. 821 n°18
Key: G Major
Difficulty: 2/5
Comments: Fast pace at the left hand, you have to control the regularity and not lose the pattern. Hard pattern at the left hand at the end.

Hi!

Well I love Trance music, especially this one.

I had some difficulty to transcribe the rapid melody in the background, when the girl sings. Here it is for you.

Note: I transcribed from the 540th episode of A state of Trance, so I hear it in C major. But on the youtube video, it's 1/2 tune below (B major).

Sorry I don't have the time to transcribe more completely... If you want, the chords are C G/B Am F (classic, very classic pattern!)

Have fun :)
